How to Choose an Interior Designer in Dubai
5 May 2026

Dubai has hundreds of interior design studios. Some are exceptional. Some are not. The difference is not always obvious from an Instagram page.
Here is what actually separates a studio worth hiring from one that will cost you more than money.
Look at completed projects, not renders
3D renders are easy to make look good. Completed project photography is harder to fake. When you look at a studio's portfolio, ask: are these real finished spaces or visualisations? Can I visit one of these projects or speak to the client?
A studio confident in its work will have both. One that only shows renders and mood boards is telling you something.
Check who you are actually hiring
Some studios sell you a senior designer in the pitch meeting and hand you to a junior once the contract is signed. Ask directly: who will be the lead designer on my project? Will I have direct access to them throughout?
At Naz Interiors, Muhammed Aslam is involved in every project brief and every key design decision. That is not true of every studio in Dubai.
Understand what the fee covers
Interior design fees in Dubai are quoted in several ways: a flat project fee, a percentage of construction cost, or a per-square-foot rate. None of these is inherently better than another. What matters is what is included.
Ask: does the fee include project management on site? What about furniture sourcing? How many revision rounds are included? Who pays if something arrives damaged or does not match the specification?
Get the answers in writing before you sign.
Ask about their contractor relationships
A designer who works with their own trusted contractors will produce a better result than one who leaves you to find your own. The relationship between designer and contractor is where most projects succeed or fail. Misaligned expectations, unclear specifications, and poor communication between the two is how you end up with a space that looks nothing like the render.
At Naz Interiors, we manage our own fitout team and trusted subcontractors. One point of contact, one accountable party.
Check the timeline conversation
Any studio that gives you a completion date without first visiting the space and understanding the scope is guessing. A realistic timeline for a full villa fitout in Dubai is 12 to 20 weeks from contract signing, depending on scope and material lead times.
If someone promises you eight weeks for a full villa renovation, ask them how. Either they have a very efficient process or they are telling you what you want to hear. The answer will be revealing.
Trust your instincts in the first meeting
The designer you hire will be in your life for several months. They will be asking personal questions about how you live, what you like, what bothers you about your current space. You need to be able to talk to them honestly.
If the first meeting feels like a sales pitch rather than a conversation, that is probably what the whole project will feel like.
One practical step
Before you speak to any studio, write down the three things that matter most to you about the finished space. Not colours or styles — the feeling you want to have when you walk in. Share that with every studio you meet and see how they respond. The ones who ask follow-up questions are the ones worth talking to further.
If you would like to have that conversation with us, WhatsApp +971 50 175 8730 or use the contact form. No obligation, no pressure.
